About Mountain Wise
Welcome to the Minority Diabetes Prevention Program, a dedicated initiative by MountainWise serving Haywood County, NC. Our mission is to empower adults aged 18 and over to take charge of their health and reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes through a comprehensive, free wellness program. We are especially committed to supporting minority populations, ensuring everyone in our community has access to the resources and education needed for a healthier future.
Our program offers a supportive and inclusive environment where participants can learn, grow, and thrive. Over the course of a year, you’ll attend engaging classes led by a certified Life-Style Coach and Personal Trainer, Ben Ross. The curriculum, approved by the CDC, covers essential topics such as nutrition, physical activity, and lifestyle changes, all designed to help you prevent Type 2 Diabetes. Each session is interactive and includes light movement, making it accessible for all fitness levels.
We believe that wellness should be rewarding and fun. That’s why we provide valuable incentives for each class, including cooking utensils, storage containers, cookbooks, workout equipment, gym memberships, and more. Throughout the year, you’ll also have the opportunity to participate in special events like outdoor picnics, short hikes, and healthy food preparation workshops, fostering a sense of community and shared achievement.
Qualifying for the program is straightforward—factors such as high blood pressure, extra body weight, or limited physical activity may make you eligible. If you are a member of a minority group or have a family history of diabetes, you may also qualify. Our team is here to guide you every step of the way, ensuring you feel welcomed and supported.
Join us in making positive changes for your health and well-being. Register today for the Minority Diabetes Prevention Program and become part of a vibrant community dedicated to living better, together.
